I think I've finally identified it.

I like Gaga. Don't stan her, but think she's capable of way better than most of the crap on the radio. Was disappointed with BTW when it came out, and besides the obvious fact that it sounds like so many other songs, I couldn't quite figure out why I wasn't getting into it.

It's an ok pop song. Catchy. Decent beat. Lyrics are fine if a bit awkward in places. The problem, as I find it after many listens, is the vocal. This is a song with a message. Those vocals should be busting out of the radio and getting right up in your face, shouting "Here I am! Listen to me!" Instead, they're buried in a series of various and completely unnecessary sound effects. It's the definition of over-produced. The vocal track really isn't that strong to begin with - the conviction isn't there. Go listen to Speechless. You can hear the strength in her voice, the emotion. I don't hear it in this song, and what is there is hardly discernible anyway. And that, more than anything, is why it doesn't sound like an anthem to me.

First of all, apparently Tommy's dad is really sick, so no Tommy at tonight's show as he's going home to be with him. I hope it isn't too serious, poor guy.

Saw Inception again, and it was again awesome. Picked up on a lot of things that I didn't the first time. That's something I love so much about Nolan films - each experience of watching them feels different.

New LJ theme. I really wanted something more colorful, but this was the only one that jumped out at me, and of course, it's not colorful at all. Oh well!

Finally bought Adam's CD like a good fan. Got the Euro version that includes Master Plan, DtRH, Voodoo, and Can't Let You Go. And I have NO IDEA why all these songs weren't on the American release...particularly Master Plan, which I think could have been an excellent single.

And now something amusing - we have a new member of the pantheon! Along with Lady Godga and Adam "Gay Messiah" Lambert, please welcome Jesus Gordon-Levitt! I read that on ONTD and lost it, but seriously, dude was badass in Inception. I feel like his career is ready to absolutely take off. Hope he can capitalize!

Had a friend show me some Tokio Hotel stuff tonight. I've heard the name around, of course, but never really looked in to them. In fact, I seriously thought they were Japanese. Oops!

So I watched some vids, and yeah, the music's all right. Super light and poppy, from what I heard. Front man is very pretty. But honestly, all I could think about was how Adam would top the shit out of him (WANT FIC!).

It makes me sad that so many of their fans don't seem to get along, though. Seriously people, we're a subversive movement. We should be working together.

I kind of hate myself for saying it, but this song is AWESOME, and the video is EVEN BETTER.

I love the dark themes here, control and sensory deprivation and power and submission and dominance. And the symbolism! Instead of just being there, everything has a meaning, even down to the dance moves. It's not MINDLESS, like so much is in popular media. Plus, it's fucking catchy.

If more pop was like this, I might actually pay attention to mainstream music.

Also, she and Adam Lambert should get together and make an all-out BDSM vid, because they would both TOTALLY be into it.

...because I have to do something while my hand takes a break from Rock Band 2.

Put your music player on shuffle. Write down the first lines of the first fifty songs. Make your flist guess them. Please don't Google songs (well, please don't Google songs and then post the title as if you'd guessed it--you can Google and keep the information to yourself).

Excluded are songs with no lyrics, songs where the first line is the title, songs in other languages, and anything that I don't have a title or artist for. Also, I totally did the first two lines for some of them.

This actually did a second good thing - it forced me to get all my audio files organized in one place. They were scattered all over the place, even across two seperate hard drives. So it's nice to have it all together again. Took forever, though.

There are a surprising number of artist repeats here considering the amount of music I have, but I kept with what the shuffle gave me. I suppose this means I need to get around to ripping all my recent CDs...

My music is random as hell - I had to skip a ton of foreign language songs )

Ok, so you do not even know how excited I am right now. I have been trying to figure out how to convert video files to audio-only files for - literally - YEARS. And I finally did it! I can now pull videos from YouTube in the .flv format and convert them to mp3s. I can also rip the songs from videos I've downloaded in other formats by converting them to .flv and then to mp3. THIS IS SO EXCITING. Some of my favorite music doesn't have to be trapped in my computer anymore! *dances*

In related news, I now have the gayest mp3 player ever - and I mean that in the very best way! :-)

I'm almost embarrassed to be making this list, but I'm going to do it anyway.

Sometimes, when I've had a bad day, I like to go on YouTube and listen to the craziest music I can find. It's usually accompanying anime fanvids, which really only makes it better. There no pick-me-up better than some good crack!

And thus, for future reference, my list of crazy, cracked-out, feel-good music - now with links!

31 songs under the cut... )

I'm even weirder than you thought, right? Yeah. I know.

1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn on your music player and put it on random/shuffle.
3. Write a drabble related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it’s over. No lingering afterwards!
4. Do ten of these, then post them.

I didn't pick a particular fandom, just went with whatever came to mind. These are entirely unedited, so they're a bit rough. This is purely what came out of my head and onto the page. I've included bits of lyrics for those unfamiliar with the songs.

Stolen from Amanda! :-)

1. Go to your playlist.
2. Hit shuffle.
3. Choose the first twenty songs - YOU CANNOT SKIP ONE. If it's embarassing you just have to live with it.
4. With those twenty songs you must post a lyric from each of the songs.
5. See if anybody can guess what songs they are from. (etc etc)
6. Don't cheat...asshole.

Songs )

My taste in music is CRAZY. This isn't even counting all the instrumental stuff I skipped over.

DEAR GOD WHY HAVE I NEVER HEARD OF THIS MUSICAL???

*calms*

Ok, so it's called Elisabeth, and it's in German. I really don't know why I didn't look further into foreign language musicals after you showed me that French one, Manda, but I didn't. This one totally makes me wish I had!

Why I like it, having seen all of two songs of the thing:

Hot guy plays Death.

Death seduces a girl: http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=4aUQ75rIEfc
Death seduces a guy: http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=ihwHC8xCTnc

Death is incredibly, incredibly sexy and quite a good singer as well, plus he totally has a David Bowie vibe going on.

I would SO give in, if confronted by this incarnation of Death. *grin*

I desperately want this on DVD, but as best as I can tell, it would cost me about 50 bucks with the dollar being so damn weak right now. *sigh*

ETA: And just when I thought I'd seen the best of this guy, here he is in another musical playing a gay vampire in love with a vampire hunter (are you KIDDING ME? I was obviously born in the wrong country!): http://youtube.com/watch?v=lSChnQ2aDE8

^^make sure you watch this one to the end!
