Weird fucking night. I flipped between reading super hot and emotional and awesome Adam/Tommy fic...and laughing my ass off at A Very Potter Sequel. Two extremely good things that you'd think would be weird together but are actually kind of awesome. Like fries dipped in ice cream. Or something. Fuck, I don't know, it's seven in the morning...
sulwen: (omfg)
JESUS CHRIST, DOCTOR WHO! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SPRINGING FUCKING DISTORTED FACES ON ME FROM OUT OF NOWHERE!

Freaking out in the corner now...*shudder*

ETA: Also, Steven Moffat owns my soul with his amazing, amazing writing. I absolutely loved every single one of his Doctor Who episodes, and then I found out that he wrote Coupling, which I also loved! So yeah, I'm one hundred percent behind him taking over Doctor Who from Davies!

ETA the second: OMG MERLIN'S IN THIS EPISODE! *dances the crossover dance*

ETA the third: Damn, Colin Morgan, you do look good in black! You should tell the Merlin costume people to put you in black more often. And Bradley too, for that matter. YUM.

ETA THE FOURTH AND LAST, I PROMISE: HOW DID I NOT KNOW THAT THAT WAS DAVID TENNANT IN THE FOURTH HARRY POTTER MOVIE? I'VE SEEN THAT MOVIE A DOZEN TIMES - YOU'D THINK I WOULD HAVE RECOGNIZED HIM WHEN I STARTED WATCHING DOCTOR WHO! *apparently sucks at remembering faces*

Dude - look what the Harry Potter fandom was up to while I was away!

A Very Potter Musical

Seriously. Watch the whole fucking thing. It's well worth it!

*will probably never stop laughing*

Also, the guy playing Voldemort? I would so, so totally hit that. Like, in a hot second. I think seeing Labyrinth so many times has permanently skewed my definition of hotness toward tall skinny blonde guys with high cheekbones, heavy makeup, and tights. Plus he's super talented and funny and awesome. I WANT THIS ON DVD.

Just got back from seeing Harry Potter 6 for a second time. Matt, Abby and I went last night at midnight - a very last-minute thing, but it was fun - and then Matt and I went again tonight. It's really a very good movie in its own right - funny when it wants to be, serious when it wants to be, emotional when it wants to be, and always interesting. The special effects are quite beautiful, as well.

But OH MY GOD SO MUCH OF MY LOVELY LOVELY SNAPE! Snape/Hermione was my first huge OTP, and I'm a huge Alan Rickman fan, so I've always craved more of him in all the movies. In this one, finally, he gets a decent amount of screen time. And oh my, is it wonderful! That man knows how to work a cape, let me tell you. I'm seriously going to have to start reading HP fic again. YUM.

So I felt like reading some Snape/Hermione tonight. It was my first really serious OTP, and there will always be a special place in my heart for it, but it's been quite a long time since I've read it. It shouldn't have been any problem to find a nice, short, porny oneshot - fucking in detention and the like...not with my collection of links.

It was quite a nasty surprise to find that the quality of the fic - and these are the ones I'd saved as favorites - is depressingly low. There's still good stuff out there...but it's not at all as I remember.

I thought about this for a long while. I think a combination of things has happened. I've matured, of course, and fandom has certainly matured as well. Mostly, though, I think there are just different expectations when it comes to fic these days. I expect my fic to be just as good as published original fiction. I want even my porn and my crack to be exceptionally well written, and the more serious pieces should be downright literary.

Maybe it's just that the SPN fandom has spoiled me. We have the best writers on the internet, bar none. It's hard to go from that level of passion, talent, and dedication to ordinary, casual fandom.

I worry for my other fandoms. Are they as still as good as I remember?

Hottest In Fiction
1. Choose ten fictional characters, male or female, (or ten of each, or any assortment,) that you consider "hot".
2. Find a picture to demonstrate their hotness.
3. Explain...if you like. Sometimes hotness can't be defined in words.
4. Pass it on! Share the sexiness...the internet could be a more beautiful place!

Ok, I couldn't narrow it down to ten...so you get 20! I ranked them the best that I could, but except for perhaps the top five, the rest are basically a tie. It was SO HARD leaving out real people! I never realized I shipped so much RPS. I also couldn't always decide on just one picture, so this is QUITE IMAGE-HEAVY.

You're also going to hear quite a lot of blatant sexual talk, so just be warned.

On to the hotness! )

Fun facts about my list!

Characters who are anti-heroes or villains: 12/20
Characters who are much, much older than myself: 6/20
Characters who have dark hair: 14/20
Characters who I would define as snarky: 12/20
Characters who have definite sadistic tendencies: 8/20
Characters who I read most often paired with other men: 16/20
Characters originating in books: 3
Movies: 2
TV shows: 11
Comics/Manga: 3
Video Games: 1

Yeah, I just spent way too much time on that...

I'm almost embarrassed to be making this list, but I'm going to do it anyway.

Sometimes, when I've had a bad day, I like to go on YouTube and listen to the craziest music I can find. It's usually accompanying anime fanvids, which really only makes it better. There no pick-me-up better than some good crack!

And thus, for future reference, my list of crazy, cracked-out, feel-good music - now with links!

31 songs under the cut... )

I'm even weirder than you thought, right? Yeah. I know.
sulwen: (writing)
1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn on your music player and put it on random/shuffle.
3. Write a drabble related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it’s over. No lingering afterwards!
4. Do ten of these, then post them.

I didn't pick a particular fandom, just went with whatever came to mind. These are entirely unedited, so they're a bit rough. This is purely what came out of my head and onto the page. I've included bits of lyrics for those unfamiliar with the songs.

You know, I just can't help it. Mpreg freaks me out. I wish I liked it, because there are some great fic writers out there who do mpreg, but I just can't. It's too weird - even in fandoms where it can be explained, like Smallville (alien reproduction!) or Harry Potter (potion gone bad!).

ETA: For some serious hilarity about Superman and mpreg, click here: http://www.rawbw.com/~svw/superman.html

Actually, I take it back. There is one way I can enjoy mpreg - when it's part of crackfic. I remember one Jon/Stephen fic in particular that was hilariously funny...so that's ok. But when people try to make it serious, it makes me shudder - and not in a good way.

On a side note, I stayed up until six AM last night watching Rafa lose his semifinal at the Australian Open to the unseeded Tsonga. I am in the process of ficcing away my disappointment and praying that Federer kicks the kid's ass in the final.

And winter sucks. Hardcore. Most of the time I don't mind Ohio, but I HATE Ohio in winter.

So. Just finished Harry Potter 7. Overall, quite an entertaining and exciting read.

Spoilers under the cut! )

This girl expresses my feelings toward Harry Potter 7 perfectly:

"To Severus Snape: May your vicious circle of self loathing and ambiguity be redeemed. Or, may it fester and drive you to do interesting things. I'm happy either way, but you must live-LIVE!" - siriuslysnogged
sulwen: (happy)
Saw Harry Potter 5 at midnight last night. Quite good, really - plus new Rickman scenes, which are ALWAYS worth it! So now I'm in the mood for Potterfic.

Today's goal: Read as many different Harry Potter pairings as possible.

Click to see the ridiculous amount of fic I read today and what I thought of it )

I also read a bit of QAF RPS today, which was amazingly hot, considering all I've even seen of the show so far are clips on YouTube. I can't wait until my DVDs get here!
