“Hermione, what’s wrong?” Ginny asked, eying her fidgety friend.

“Hmm?” Hermione looked up suddenly, obviously having missed the question. They were in their room getting ready for bed after another long school day, and Hermione had been lost in her thoughts all evening. She hadn’t said a single word to Ginny, just gone mechanically through the nightly routine and slipped into bed. But even now, she seemed worried about something, tossing and turning from one side to the other. She hadn’t turned a page of her book since she’d opened it, and that was what finally prompted Ginny to speak.

“I said, what’s wrong? You seem like you’re worried about something tonight,” Ginny repeated.

Hermione bookmarked her place and set the book on her nightstand. She stared at the ceiling and said, “I’m not worried, really, just…thinking.”

“About what?”

Propping herself up on an elbow, Hermione turned to look at her friend. “Guess.”

Ginny grinned, recognizing this game: she’d get to hear what was on Hermione’s mind, just as soon as she could drag it out. “Is it schoolwork? Did the boys get caught copying off you again?” she asked.

Hermione laughed. “No, I’m used to that!” she said.

“Thought so. All right…are you fighting with one of the girls? Was someone mean to you?” Ginny asked, but Hermione shook her head, a smile playing across her face. “Then that leaves…it’s about a boy, isn’t it?”

Hermione said nothing, but the smile on her face grew. Ginny squealed in delight. “Ooo, Hermione has a crush! Who is it? Tell me!” she demanded.

“No,” Hermione said, tossing her curls defiantly.

“Please? Come on!” Ginny begged.

Hermione shook her head. “Sorry, Ginny. I’m not going to tell.”

“If I guess, will you tell me?”

“You’ll never guess.”

“I’ll take that as a yes. Someone at Hogwarts, right?”

“Yes - who else do we ever see?”

“True. Ok…is it a Gryffindor?”

“No.”

“So that rules out my brother and Harry…what house is he in?”

“Not telling.”

“If not a Gryffindor, he must be a Ravenclaw, right?”

“Nope.”

“Hufflepuff? Really?”

“Wrong again.”

“You have a crush on a Slytherin?” Ginny wrinkled her nose in disgust. “It’s Malfoy, isn’t it? Eww, Hermione!”

Hermione laughed. “No, silly! How could I like that whiny little brat?”

Ginny sighed. “I give up. You must know some devilishly handsome and intelligent Slytherin that I don’t. No wonder you’re worried - Harry and Ron would never let you hear the end of it if you started dating a Slytherin!”

“You’re right…they’d hate him,” Hermione mused, her voice growing a bit more serious.

Ginny knew the end of a conversation when she heard it, so she said good night to Hermione and soon fell into a deep sleep. Hermione listened to the deep, even breathing of her friend and heard her words again in her head: They’d never let you hear the end of it if you started dating a Slytherin! No one would let her hear the end of it if anything ever happened between her and the Slytherin in question, and she had a feeling they’d go beyond merely complaining about it. You must know some devilishly handsome and intelligent Slytherin that I don’t. Ginny’s words brought a small smile back to Hermione’s face. It was someone that Ginny knew…but perhaps she just didn’t see him the same way Hermione had begun to. She liked Ginny’s choice of the word “devilish” to describe her crush - it suited him.

Especially his voice. Hermione closed her eyes and rolled onto her back, replaying the day’s lecture in her mind’s ear. A lazy smile stretched across her lips as she relished the way his tongue wrapped around every sibilant syllable, the deep timbre of his vowels, how he drew out certain choice words purely for effect - the man certainly had a flair for the dramatic. He had to know the effect that voice could have, striking fear into the hearts of some…and desire into the hearts of others. Hermione had never feared him, but she had only recently come to desire him. When it had come, it had come with a vengeance, and it seemed her body would never quiet.

Even now, just thinking about him, envisioning his face, remembering that voice, imagining what it would be like to break through his icy barriers and see if there was heat within…her body began to tingle in all sorts of lovely ways. Hermione slid her hands down her body, her fingers slipping easily under the nightclothes she wore to keep out the cold. One hand moved up to her breasts, playing gently with one nipple, then switching to the other, back and forth, back and forth. The other hand moved down in between her legs. Hermione gasped at the cold skin on her warm thighs, but soon her hand warmed, and she began rubbing in earnest, tiny circles on one particular spot, around and around, each circle building the tension in her body higher and higher.

She liked to imagine him entering her, hard - not the gentle touch a virgin like herself was supposed to want, but the action of a man driven by his desire, beyond the point of rational thought. She wanted him to want her like that. The image of him thrusting into her, over and over, taking her as if she belonged to him, was what finally sent her over the edge.

When Hermione’s breathing finally returned to normal, she cast a wary look at Ginny’s bed, hoping she hadn’t woken. But her friend seemed just as deeply asleep as before, and Hermione took a deep breath as she relaxed into her pillow. She had started doing this - playing with herself - a few months ago, and several different boys had occupied her thoughts during that time, but when she had started to imagine Severus Snape, the results had blown everything else away.

Hermione laughed to herself softly. Yes, Harry and Ron and Ginny and just about everyone else hated Snape, but after all the nights of pleasure he’d unwittingly given her, she had to love him.

This is one of the few HP non-canon pairings I can really see, given Hermione's intellectual qualities & her similarity to what I imagine Lily to have been like. This is good. :)

Thanks! This is my Harry Potter OTP - I really don't even like most of the other characters. I'm glad you enjoyed it. :-)
