On Wank

Fandom wank makes me really sad. Fandom is usually such a happy, fun, friendly place. Why can't we all play in the sandbox together?

One of the nice things about LJ is that it's so easy to distance yourself from the wankage, when it comes. I don't do discussion or meta comms, which seems to eliminate most of the wank. Sticking with fanfic/art/vids/graphics generally keeps things feeling good.

Still...I just don't understand why you'd want to go out there and bash something, especially something you love enough to be part of its fandom. I can't fucking stand Ron/Hermione - it literally makes me sick - but I don't go to their comms and troll around. I just ignore it. And aren't we all happier for that?

Where it really gets me is in the SPN fandom. This fandom is an incredible, wonderful place, filled with amazing people, limitless creativity, and, most of all, passion for what we're doing. Why, then, do people feel the need to flash around their negativity? Of course people like Jared or Sam better than Jensen or Dean, or vice versa. I'm a Dean/Jensen girl, myself, for many reasons. But can't we all just realize that without both of them, there is no pairing? I can't imagine why or how such hatred could emerge toward either one of them.

Yes, there are things that I fucking hate, even within my own fandoms and pairings. I fucking HATE mpreg. But I would never - NEVER - presume to judge or bash the people who enjoy it.

Basically: wank kills my buzz. I don't understand it, and I wish it didn't exist.

Things To Love About "House" Fic, Even After Reading Only A Small Selection:

-Snark. Loads and loads of snark. EPIC snark.
-Random medical observations at rather unusual times (prostate...*giggles*).
-VOICE KINK.
-Damaged characters. Because I like my porn with a side of emotional baggage!
-That whole friends-becoming-more dynamic, which is a love of mine.
-Characters that are so right for each other you can't even imagine them with anyone else, ever.
-Older, arrogant, and ridiculously intelligent authority figure. Pretty much my perfect man.
-Lots of canon evidence.
-Big fandom with lots of fic! Yay!

OH MY GOD.

HOW am I not ALREADY into podfic? Because it's AWESOME.

Also: J2 smut is coming. Soonish.

ETA: Just found out that the girl who read the podfic I'm currently listening to is from New Zealand, and that's what that fabulous accent is! *loves*

You know a pairing has eaten your brain when it makes you want to read historical AU fic.

Because come on. Historical AU? But I want it!
sulwen: (perv)
Name 15 fictional characters you'd have sex with and then tag 5 people to do the same

Not in any kind of order, because I totally can't rank these guys.

Under the cut, for what is probably way too much information )

So there's my fucked-up fantasy life. Can you tell I have a thing for villains, antiheroes, and guys with anger issues? Anyone who wants to answer this, feel free - I don't like tagging specific people.
sulwen: (stfu)
So I just realized that the novel-length J2 fic I just finished (and cried at, which is a fandom first for me) and the cracked-out oneshot that is totally the hottest Sam/Dean I've read so far were written by THE SAME PERSON.

She is now my favorite author ever. Go check her out: http://fleshflutter.livejournal.com/profile

That makes me very, very happy. On the other hand, I've also discovered the Thing I Hate about the Supernatural fandom. There's always something in every fandom that pisses me the fuck off. In Pirates, it's shipper wars. In Harry Potter, it's that the fandom is too fucking big and the average fic quality is therefore low. And in Supernatural, it's that half the fans like to spend their time bitching (loudly) about how misogynistic the show is. Anyone who knows me knows my thoughts on feminism. I like to see female characters get beat up and called names and be generally not treated as well as the men. Maybe that means I'm fucked up. Still - there's no excuse for killing everyone's buzz and cluttering up the fandom with your wanking. Go off in your little corner and wank in private, mmk?
sulwen: (kratos)
Mmm...new RPS to play with! The CW OT4: Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, Michael Rosenbaum and Tom Welling. All on Smallville at one time, but I wasn't at all interested in the J's until they left for Supernatural. Now...I just want them all to jump into bed together, in any combination. And I want to see their characters bleeding over into reality, because I totally think that would happen when you play a long-term role.

God damn it. Now I have to write that fic!

I seriously cannot believe how slashy the CW is without meaning to be. I mean, come ON. Smallville and Supernatural are some of the ho!yay-iest shows EVER. Somebody is behind all this, and I have a theory that the actors have more than a little to do with it.... *evil smirk*

Know what's awesome about the internet?

I can just be sitting on the couch, thinking, "Wow, I'd like to read fic about Sam and Dean both having sex with a girl at the same time and then it turning into something slashy" - and then go online and find it - literally - within two minutes.

*spoiled fangirl is spoiled*

So I just came across a post on livelongnmarry where the poster decided to pull her auction because, while she believed in the cause, she didn't agree with the offers of fic written about incestuous pairings, among other things. This struck me as really strange, like it was weird that someone would even think that.

Then I realized: I am SO down with the incest that I kind of forgot it was a kink.

I ship Peter/Susan (brother/sister), Sam/Dean (brothers), Hikaru/Kaoru (twins), Nathan/Peter/Claire (brothers/daughter and niece), Kratos/Lloyd (father/son), Fred/George (twins), Simon/River (brother/sister), Daemon/Lucivar (brothers), and Phedre/Imriel (mother/son - it's technically only ADOPTIVE incest, but I count it anyway). And I'll read others: Lionel/Lex, Lucius/Draco, and more.

I'm totally going to the special hell. And it's totally going to be worth it.

This is what I do when I can't sleep.

Meme #1 )

Make a list of all the characters in your icons. (Although you may have more than one icon of a single character, they only go on the list once.) Alphabetize it. Take the first two people on the list; that's your first pairing. Second two people; second pairing. Etc. Then write your reaction to each pairing (or a snippet of a hypothetical fic featuring each pairing).

I went by first name, simply because it was easier.

Which fandom is...

Clicky! )

Hee! That was fun! :-D
sulwen: (porn)
Dude. If you are AT ALL into fandom, go read this entry RIGHT NOW:

http://mona1347.livejournal.com/185346.html

And then come back and tell me how TOTALLY RIGHT she is.
sulwen: (porn)
Just wanted to remind people that there's a new porn battle starting up at IJ, here:

http://asylums.insanejournal.com/porn_battle/

The prompts post is up for the rest of the day, I believe. Go submit stuff!
sulwen: (emo sarah)
Ok, so I hate badfic - don't we all? But you've gotta love a whole community dedicated to mocking the worst of the worst. Check it out: http://community.livejournal.com/badfic_quotes/

Some of my favorite/brain-hurty tidbits:

Click...if you dare... )

Ok, stopping now. That was WAY too much fun. If I ever need solid proof that people are stupid, here it is. :-)
sulwen: (fandom)
GAH!!!! WHY DO THINGS THAT I WANT TO EXIST TAUNT ME WITH HINTS OF THEIR EXISTENCE AND THEN PROCEED TO NOT EXIST????

Translation: I was reading through some Porn Battle prompts and saw that someone requested Princess Bride slash (Inigo/Westley, to be specific). I therefore did what any fangirl would do when tempted by a new pairing, and tore the internet apart looking for fic. But it's NOT FUCKING THERE!

*grumble* ...now I have to write it... *grumble grumble*

Something else the prompts made me realize: Crossovers eat my brain...but I'm not sure if it's in a good way or a bad way...
sulwen: (get out)
You know, I love fandom. But comments like the one below...well...they get to me. Just a bit. I feel like this is what the outside world thinks fandom is, and while capslock and squeeage have their place, whole threads of this sort of thing are just too much.

OMG THAT IS LIKE THE CUTEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN ILU HAVE MY E-BABIES.

Kink!

Look! It's a list of kinks! I'm eternally grateful to the girl who compiled this list, because it is a shockingly useful thing for me and my reading and writing. Haven't read through it all yet, but I'm planning to. Don't click if you're the type of person that would avoid reading a fanfic because of its warnings.

Clicky clicky here for kinky kinky stuff )

You know, I just can't help it. Mpreg freaks me out. I wish I liked it, because there are some great fic writers out there who do mpreg, but I just can't. It's too weird - even in fandoms where it can be explained, like Smallville (alien reproduction!) or Harry Potter (potion gone bad!).

ETA: For some serious hilarity about Superman and mpreg, click here: http://www.rawbw.com/~svw/superman.html

Actually, I take it back. There is one way I can enjoy mpreg - when it's part of crackfic. I remember one Jon/Stephen fic in particular that was hilariously funny...so that's ok. But when people try to make it serious, it makes me shudder - and not in a good way.

On a side note, I stayed up until six AM last night watching Rafa lose his semifinal at the Australian Open to the unseeded Tsonga. I am in the process of ficcing away my disappointment and praying that Federer kicks the kid's ass in the final.

And winter sucks. Hardcore. Most of the time I don't mind Ohio, but I HATE Ohio in winter.
