Catcherofdreamz thinks that he's eager for approval from most people and that this could account for some of it.

I don't know him well enough to guess. But I'm pretty sure that Adam brings that out in him

Intensely so. If Adam jumped off a bridge Tommy would be over the side before he knew what was happening, there is not the slightest doubt in my mind. I wonder if that itself could be encouraged by submissive tendencies?

That's an interesting idea. (And none of us really ~know him, so we're all just speculating.) Possibly, but there's also a very strong sense of IDGAF that comes off him, so it's not about receiving approval from everyone. Maybe more like there are ~specific people he wants approval from.

Yeah, it's that underground rocker image he's trying to project. And possibly the emo-boy deal, too. That selectivity is a huge part of those kind of scenes. Emo boys would jam a blunt pencil through their hand if it would get Pete Wentz or Gerard Way's approval, and they'd do the same thing to make the jocks at school hate them. It's an attempt to form an Us and a Them, to make sure you have an ingroup.

It stands out here because pop people don't have to do it as much, they just want as many people as possible to like them. You have to get as many radio spins as possible, climb to the top of the charts. And of course also because Adam's gay, he doesn't have to create an artificial in-group. Which would be very attractive to Tommy's desire for an in-group. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what caused emo to pick up traditionally gay mannerisms. I mean, every member of MCR is straight except I think Frank once had a crush on Gerard, and they embraced queerness so strongly they alienated themselves from the pop punk scene, which already has the Us/Them set up!

Wow, that was tl;dr in a whole OT way. Um, gosh Tommy wants Adam to grab him by the hair and force him to his knees, you can see it in his eyes.

awe i like when im brought up. i don't know if it's approval as much as affirmation, and I think there is a bit of a difference. affirmation that yes, he is wanted, yes he fits in, yes adam wants to touch him. i think he likes the attention, but only from people he seeks it from and I think he desperately seeks it from adam. but not in a really needy annoying way.

like he walks up to adam and adam approaches him. yes, success. adam tilts his chin up and looks at him. yes, success. adam kisses him. yes, success.

then there are the nights when adam doesn't and he always seems a little expectant and then a little disappointed. and then his interactions with adam for the rest of the show are different. he walks up to him and kinda looks to adam for a split second before leaning back on him. like "is this ok?"

he seems to absolutely GLOW in adam's attention. like maybe he is perpectually still in a state where he's not sure if his life is real or he is just gonna wake up and it all have been a dream.

but the fever sequence, tommy adores it. he almost skips into place every night waiting for adam to come down to him. never a variation there. tommy would kiss him every night if it were up to him, but he's not going to initate it. he's gonna just gonna stand there and hope.

I agree so hard with this whole comment, particularly about how Tommy glows when Adam's paying attention to him. He never looks more beautiful.

I feel like I always see a little bit of sadness at the end of the Fever sequence, kiss or not...like it's something he's been waiting for, looking forward to, and now it's over and he has to wait again.

There is always that little secret smile after the kiss, that we only see on super slow mo gifs. And like I said on twitter... Adam is an actor, Tommy is not. So, I mean, are they putting on the kiss for the audience? Yes. But Tommy's reaction is genuine. He's not like Adam... strutting away licking his lips like a sexgod. He's just there, a split second grin of affirmation and satisfaction that we see right before his hair flops down in his face again. But Tommy always puts himself in a position for a kiss regardless of what Adam does. He makes sure his face is accessible. He moves his hair out of the way. It's the little things that are so telling.

There is also the laughing/giggling factor which is a whole other ballgame and discussion. :) Tommy is a very interesting dude.

That's true, there's often that tiny secret little smile...and he's leaned to make his lips very accessible for Adam. I remember one outdoor show where he was just trying so hard to get the hair out of his face, but the wind was blowing and he couldn't. It was adorable.

And then there are the times when Adam pushes the hair away from his face, but more often then not, you see Tommy either flip his hair away or move it aside with his finger right before the kiss or no kiss moment. For once I'd like to see Adam try to make it a no kiss night and Tommy just grab him by the necklaces and lay one on him. But... he won't. :) Because he knows what Adam does when he initiates things. When he bit his arm, Adam pulled back like he was on fire... the licking of the face, he turns for a split second like "omg what are you doing?" Tommy kissing his cheek you can see a split second of panic on Adam's face. Adam hates not being in control so bad, but I think it's a combination of LIKING being in control and being afraid of losing control.

And when things get a little out of control for the both of them, they laugh. And sometimes not because it's terribly funny.

And that night...last week, when Adam's singing, and Tommy thinks it's time to kiss, and Adam pulls back...wait, I need to post that...



THIS. This is NOT staged, or planned. Watch Tommy's face, especially the quirk of his lips like "OICWYD, Adam." He closes his eyes, parts his lips, and Adam's still singing. And Tommy is like, "No, want it now, k?" And then he kiss is...not rushed. It's like, "Oh, I'm sorry, baby, here." And Tommy is happy as hell at the end of it.

I agree. I do think there's real love there, whether they're fucking or not. And Tommy at the very least adores Adam, but in a way where he doesn't push and leaves the reins in Adam's hands. There are some nights where I felt like even when he's not necessarily happy up on that stage (like when his dad fell ill and passed away) he draws a lot of comfort from Adam's presence.

Adam is such this huge, all-encompassing presence...I think you're probably right with that one. I certainly hope they take comfort in each other. It's not the easiest thing they're doing here, after all.

ADORES <--- is a great word to describe it. and when someone you adore pays you attention, you bask in it. which is what he does. I think Adam is a comforting presence in general, because he's generally very level headed and balanced. (unless he's attacking paps lol) I'm pretty sure Tommy has said on CAMERA that he thinks that Adam is one of the most amazing people he has ever met (paraphrased) so it's almost like he just wants secure his place in Adam's Amazingness.(lol adams amazingness)
