You know, only a fangirl could interpret a Star Trek episode like this:

"Patterns of Force" (airing order: Episode 53)
Also known as "Patterns of Chest Hair." Yes, it's a crime that this is the only episode where Spock takes his shirt off, because, yum. But hey, at least he runs around for half the episode without managing to find another one -- and there's flogging. Not to mention sweaty clambering around on one another's nekkidness to break out of jail. There's the 'I trust you to cut me' numminess as well, but the best, of course, is the bit where the Nazi interrogator hits Kirk, and it's Spock who flinches. Very nice.

...I wonder what all those rabid fanboys would say?

So I've suddenly decided that I NEED to write a Tales of Symphonia/Final Fantasy XII crossover fic, involving Kratos/Zelos and Basch/Balthier meeting...somehow...and realizing exactly how similar they are. Because they SO are. And then maybe doing some switching. Hell, it'll probably just end in a full-on foursome. Why not?

*has been spending WAY too much time indulging her inner slasher lately*

So I knitted a bunny for my cousin's fourth birthday. It's my first try with a stuffed animal, and it came out a little deformed, but I still think it's cute. Next project is a stuffed cat.

Everyone knows I love Whose Line. I have the first two seasons and half of the third downloaded, and I've watched them all many times. Tonight, following some links, I downloaded some of the episodes from the last season - season eight. And, though it's still awesome and funny, it also breaks my heart. The energy, the lightheartedness, the joy of the early seasons has all but disappeared for my two favorite performers. You can tell that they're just sick of it. It's not the improv, either - I think it has to be the show itself. It's well know that Ryan long wanted to take over producing duties from Dan Patterson, and he certainly could have done it. For some reason, they hung onto games that weren't even that funny and that the performers were miserable doing (Hoedown is the one that immediately comes to mind, but there were others). I hate that some asshole producer can take the passion away from a person like that. Part of the reason I love the show so much is that there's nothing better than watching people do what they love, and in the early seasons, you know there's nowhere these guys would rather be. It's not fair that that couldn't continue.

On the plus side, there's still some serious slash going on (boykissing!), and all that angst is perfect for fic purposes. I so want to write a fic that takes place just as the show's ending, and the boys know they're going to have to go their seperate ways.

Finally, I've been working on a new fic while I'm at work. It's a wrestling story featuring six of my favorites from TNA: AJ Styles, Christian Cage, Kurt Angle, Christopher Daniels, Chris Sabin, and Alex Shelley. Premise: The TNA guys don't make as much money as WWE guys, so they end up carpooling to some of the shows. These six, all crammed into a van, get stuck in a snowstorm on the way to an Ohio house show and end up trapped in a hotel for a few very eventful days. Much slash ensues, everything from cute and fluffy (Sabin/Shelley) to angry and violent (Kurt/AJ) to epic love (AJ/Daniels or AJ/Christian - I can't decide!)

Ok, haven't done this in a while, but this one was too priceless to let go:

Shelley flushed. "We were just..."

"Having sex," Sabin blurted.

"Arguing," Shelley finished at the same time, glaring at Sabin. "We were arguing."

"I see," Nash said, sinking slowly onto a nearby chair. "Were you arguing over whether you were having sex or not? There seems to be some confusion over that."

"Well, we were, and then we weren't," Sabin explained. "And then Alex started yelling, and I ate some cookies."

ETA: And this one:

"Guys!" Shelley shouted. "This conversation is not helping me get my dick sucked!"

Nash paused in surprise, but quickly recovered. "He makes an excellent point, Chris. I've always believed that a conversation that doesn't end in someone getting blown is not a conversation worth having."

So we went to the TNA house show in Troy tonight, and it was AWESOME! Here's the highlights of the night:

- Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley are even more pretty and talented in person. They worked really well together, and at the end of the match, Shelley held the ropes for Sabin to leave the ring - something usually done for women. I squeed.

- James Storm looks like Sawyer from Lost.

- When AJ Styles came out, his opponent made the cocksucking hand motion. I take this to mean that AJ is totally gay.

- JB is super femme. I didn't really see it on TV, but in person, it was totally there.

- AJ and Tomko signed autographs and we got them! It was amazing to meet them, and I got to tell AJ how much I love him.

- In fact, Matt said to AJ that I adore him, and AJ responded, "I'm sorry." Now, I can take this two ways: the joking way, which I'm sure it probably was, or the way I'm choosing to take it: "I'm sorry, but I'm just not into girls."

- And then, best of all, they did pictures with Kurt Angle in the middle of the ring! I've never been in a ring before, so that on its own was awesome. And Angle is just one of the best ever - he won an Olympic gold medal! - and I got to shake his hand and talk to him, and now we have an autographed picture with him!

- Oh yeah, and the wrestling was great, too... :-)

Overall, it was an amazing night - better than WWE in just about every way. We'll definitely be going back when they come around again.

Slashing in this fandom is so very different than anything I've done before. First off, there's the competitive aspect. The other RPS I've been involved in - Daily Show/Colbert Report, Whose Line - has been about friends, co-workers. But in tennis, it's all about the competition. Any pairing with Federer will be colored by the man's dominance over everyone else in the field - they've all lost to him. It's interesting, too, to be in a fandom so heavily influenced by real-life events, constant new material, like they're writing half the story for us. I keep seeing events that I remember from life pop up in the fic - the Wimbledon final, Rafa's withdrawal in Cincinnati (which I saw live), this year's US Open. It gives a strange sense of half-truth to it all that's quite novel to someone used to slashing extremely fictional characters in static, fictional worlds.

There's also the worldwide aspect of it all. With fictional characters, they pretty much speak the same language. But the tennis greats are from all over the world, and their language abilities vary widely - from Roger's very good English with just a hint of accent to Rafa's barely useable English, heavily accented and peppered with words and phrases of Spanish. The idea that they must use a language not native to either speaker to communicate with each other is something I want to explore more. It makes the voices so very strong, too - in good fic, I can hear them saying the lines, and they sound distinctive, like themselves and no one else.

There are a few things that bug me, though, about this rather small fandom. Why must all the fic about each pairing be so very similar? Why must Roger/Rafael be full of angst all the time, while Roger/Andy is always silly, verging more toward PWP than anything with real emotion? What if I want to read a little R/R drabble about tickling or a R/A epic about long denial and eventual surrender? I wonder if this is merely a result of a smallish fandom or if it's something more - that writers are less willing to take creative risks with people that feel so very real, even moreso than actors. I hope the former, but I fear the latter. I find myself wanting to write fic that goes against the grain, and see what kind of response it gets from the fandom.

This fandom has latched onto my brain more tightly than anything has in a long while. Perhaps it's the result of making my way through the fandom and seeing so much left unexplored. Even Heroes, which I absolutely love and will participate in forever, didn't have this kind of hold on me. I watched the show, I read the fic, I was satisfied. There's so much amazing Heroes fic out there that my craving was satisfied with what's already been done. In this new fandom? I've seen just enough to take the edge off my desire, but not nearly enough to satisfy it. I may have to get writing once the season begins again....

And a slightly off-topic note: Look! There are people who take fandom just as seriously as me - maybe even moreso! Link: http://www.transformativeworks.org/

Oh my god, I have a new ship, and it's taken over my brain: Roger Federer/Rafael Nadal

Look at the pretty!

Suddenly, I can't wait until the tennis season starts up again...one more month! *fangirly smirk*

Just finished watching Heroes on DVD. I'm shocked that it actually lived up to the hype - everyone said it was awesome, and lo and behold, it was! It's intelligent and fun and graphic and shocking and exciting and suspenseful and funny and tragic all at the same time - and it's so damn SLASHY! So now I have a new fandom, and it's perfect timing to get in on it, since the new season starts Monday.

*is happy*

Peter/Nathan/Claire = OT3. Seriously.

And a very lovely quote, found in a comment to a smutfic featuring the above pairing:
"Fandom has killed my morals with pretty eyes and gorgeous lips."

Saw Harry Potter 5 at midnight last night. Quite good, really - plus new Rickman scenes, which are ALWAYS worth it! So now I'm in the mood for Potterfic.

Today's goal: Read as many different Harry Potter pairings as possible.

Click to see the ridiculous amount of fic I read today and what I thought of it )

I also read a bit of QAF RPS today, which was amazingly hot, considering all I've even seen of the show so far are clips on YouTube. I can't wait until my DVDs get here!

So I think I've decided that the best way to ship the Pirates fandom is just to pair everyone with everyone else. Because, come on, look at the possiblities: Jack/Elizabeth, Jack/Will, Jack/Barbossa, Jack/Norrington, Jack/Tia, Barbossa/Elizabeth, Barbossa/Will, Barbossa/Tia, Will/Tia, Elizabeth/Tia, Elizabeth/Norrington, Jack/Will/Elizabeth, Jack/Will/Norrington, Jack/Will/Barbossa, Jack/Barbossa/Elizabeth...it goes on and on! I'd read ANY of that, no kidding (though my recent faves are Barbossa/Elizabeth and Barbossa/Jack - both very, very nice!). *loves fandom SO MUCH!*

Ok, this quote is so not as funny out of the context, but I love it so I'm posting it here to save forever. Plus, it's like the smallest drabble ever - just from those three lines you get the whole fic. *is so in love with her RPS it's not even funny*

“What…how should we do this?” Stephen asks Anderson quietly. “Which one of us should kiss him?”

“It should be you. You’re his best friend. I think he’s more comfortable with the idea of kissing you,” Anderson rationalizes.

“Guys? I’m right here.”

Why I'm so excited for the return of DX:

Shawn Michaels: Hot
Triple H: Hot
The two of them together doing crotch chops and yelling "suck it!": OMG SO HOT

"Shawn and me, well, we've always been tight...sometimes we've fought back to back, sometimes we've fought face to face, but there's always been a common bond between us." - Triple H at the Vengeance press conference.

Yeah Trips. I know. *naughty thoughts* :-)
