You guys should see me right now.

I haven't set up my for-serious writing environment in a long time. Fanfic is quick and dirty most of the time, and I can usually bust it out sitting on the couch in front of the TV.

Not so with my Big Bang. It's hard, and so tonight I decided to really try and get into the flow of it, knock out a couple thousand words in a sitting. To give myself the best chance of doing that, I've pulled all my tricks out of the bag.

I'm sitting at the dining room table with my laptop. Usually I would go to my desktop for serious writing, but that room is too cold to use this time of year. On my right side I have a bottle of water and a giant cup of peppermint tea - I tend to drink a lot when I write. On my left is one lit candle - the scent is called "autumn leaves," and the flame flickers just out of direct view, just enough to keep me from focusing in too hard on the words. Music is playing, one track on repeat, something instrumental and smooth, but not boring - just what my brain needs to put it in the mood to play.

Now I just have to hope it works.

Wow. That is a serious business setup. I usually just make myself SIT at my desk and stay there. If I stare at my keyboard, it will come? Lol. I did 4k words yesterday doing that despite the pain in my back and neck. Hardcore, dude. Hardcore.

Yay 4k! That's awesome!

I managed about 1500 words last night, which I'm fairly happy with. I'll tell you, though, I'm almost regretting writing such a dark story. I like angst, but having to actually feel those emotions over and over for extended periods of time is exhausting.

I hope your pain gets better soon! *massages you gently* :)

That's good progress, bb. Always a good thing when something tangible results. And I sympathize on the darkfic. They're so hard to sustain, aren't they? I did one on a lark (never a good idea) a couple months ago and it left me shaken for four days. I had to go write kitten fic to feel better. Lol. Good luck and I can't wait to read it. Ill stock up on Kleenex in advance. And thanks for the well wishes. I'm probably gonna get yelled at at physical therapy today for sitting up at the computer all day long yesterday. But we must suffer for our art, no?
