Pretty standard fantasy. It was a somewhat fun and easy read, but absolutely nothing about it stood out to me. Plus, there were LOTS of errors in the text - bad editors!

Very fun read, really just like a long show. I love Stephen! I'll admit that it started to feel a little repetitive by the end, but overall, quite entertaining. I want the audiobook, because I'll bet anything it's even better with Stephen reading it.

Really lovely gay love story written, as the back of the book says, in "the best traditions of Victorian Literature." I adored both characters and the writing style was quite good. My only complaints are that I wish there had been a little more description of their intimate relationship, and that my copy of the book was missing a 15 page chunk toward the beginning. Otherwise, a really moving read that had my heart racing - literally - at times.

Ok, this last one would have been absolutely perfect if there had been the right payoff. We spend the entire novel building up the relationship between the two main characters - and then never see it fulfilled. It almost feels like the author wanted to write them together but was too afraid to do it or was somehow convinced not to. But hey, that's what fanfiction is for, right?

I feel the need to explain what exactly I mean by my rating system.

1 star: Terrible. A waste of time and money.
2 stars: Below average. Poorly written or just boring.
3 stars: Average. Worth one read, but probably won't merit a second.
4 stars: Above average. Pretty well written, pretty good story, probably with scenes that will be read again even if the whole book is not.
5 stars: Excellent. What I call "top-shelf," because that's where I keep these. Great writing, great story, probably sucked me in for days at a time. Definitely worth another read.

And the list so far:

1 - The Mirador by Sarah Monette. 5/5
2 - Wicked Gentlemen by Ginn Hale. 4/5

So I've decided to do the 50 book challenge - read 50 books this year. I'm not sure what I usually read in a year, but it's gotta be over half of that even when I'm not trying. But I really need to get through some of my personal library, especially considering all the new stuff I got for Christmas, so I'm giving the challenge a shot. Thanks for inspiring me, Amanda!

I think I'm going to rate each book as I read it, out of five stars. My ratings tend to skew ridiculously high, but oh well.

1 - Melusine by Sarah Monette. 5/5
