(a) three facts about them from my personal canon/fanon
1. He is a super-special delicate chosen snowflake. I DON'T EVEN CARE WHAT PEOPLE SAY, THIS IS MY PERSONAL HEAD-CANON! 2. He tries really, really hard not to think too much. Unfortunately, Dean's a smart guy, so it doesn't work out too well. 3. He relates to the world in an extremely physical way. Not just food and sex and all that, but all the little tactile pleasures he takes comfort in - cleaning his guns, driving the Impala, cleaning a wound. My theory is that he never got much physical affection after Mary died, and therefore had to learn to satisfy that need in other ways.
(b) a reason he sucks
1. Dean, my darling, you are beautiful when you cry, and gods know I love broken characters. But dude, EMO ENOUGH?
(c) a reason he's awesome
1. TOO MANY TO CHOOSE FROM. DEAN REJECTS THIS RESTRICTION. TEAM FREE WILL DAMMIT! Ok, fine. Um...he doesn't second-guess himself. Dean is a man of action, and he doesn't waste time letting himself get bogged down in guilt and second-guessing and indecision. The world is a simple place for Dean, and he moves through it as smoothly and purposefully as the Impala down an empty highway. ALSO HE'S STUPIDLY PRETTY.
(d) five things I'd like to see happen to him
1. Find peace. Oh, I want this so much for both the boys that it almost hurts. For Dean, I think peace involves picking locks and shooting evil things and never settling down anywhere, but peace nonetheless. Like a season without a big bad. 2. I want him to realize how much Sam loves him. How it was never about him in the first place, the running, that it was John every time before Hell and an overload of guilt and lingering grief afterward. 3. I want more scenes of him shirtless. YES, I'M SHALLOW. IT'S JENSEN'S FAULT, NOT MINE! 4. I want him to smile more. Dean has an absolutely killer smile, and we hardly ever get to see it these days. 5. I'd love to see some show of gratitude from all the people he and Sam have saved over the years. Maybe a vision or something. I just think that he doesn't give himself enough credit. His poor self-worth could use a boost.

OK HEAR ME OUT. I think this is more Jensen's fault than Dean's, but HE DOES NOT HAVE CHEMISTRY WITH WOMEN. EVER. AT ALL. Like, I can totally imagine Sam with a girl. Sam/Jess is pretty damn hot, as is possessed!Sam/Jo. But Dean? It's not that I don't think he's a brilliant lover on all those one night stands. It's that I don't think he'll ever be able to relate to a woman the way he can with other men, Sam in particular, of course. There is a distinct vein of sexism running through some of Dean's dialog, and I totally get why. Sam had a few years of Stanford and relative normalcy. Dean really never had a meaningful relationship with a woman. I think he might have been a very different person if he'd had a sister.
