So I'm rewarding myself with some TV time after my thrilling and exhausting NaNo victory. I watched a couple of episodes of Doctor Who S3, and then I decided to browse around Netflix for a bit to see if they'd added anything new to the instant watch lately. I noticed that they'd added S1 of Xena, and as I've never seen it, I watched the first episode.

All I can say is wow.

I love cheese. The cheesier the better - Labyrinth is one of my favorite movies of all time, and I'm a Buffy fanatic. But Xena? Man, that show takes cheesy to a whole new level! It's like they're not even trying for any sort of realism - they just thought it would be fun to play dress up and run around New Zealand like Greek warriors for a while.

Honestly, I can't decide whether I like it or not. I laughed. I was entertained. I didn't hate either of the main characters, which is kind of shocking for me because they're both female. So I suppose I did like it.

And that brings me to the slash. Oh yeah - y'all are right. It's WAY slashy. And honestly, it would be really nice to have a femslash pairing that actually had some canon support - you don't see that often enough. I'm very tempted to keep watching for that reason alone. I really do love me some femslash, but it's so rare to get two strong female characters who have chemistry with each other and are not entirely defined by their relationships with the male characters that I hardly have any ships. Yeah. I'm gonna have to keep watching.

Oh yes. My level of geek never ceases to amaze me.
