Ah, Anne Bishop...the most entertaining hack this side of Dan Brown. This book, like the others in the Black Jewels universe, is full of seriously fucked-up gender politics, horrible made-up slang that peppers every page, and characters that are hardly more than fanfiction cliches. But damn if it isn't fun to read! This book took me about eight hours to get through - possibly a new record - and though it really didn't add anything to the series, it was quite pleasureable to see Daemon Sadi ("The Sadist") in action again. The perfect piece of fluff to follow an intense and emotional ride like Bag of Bones.
