Some people just are, and not necessarily in a sexual way. I've seen the comments above, and Rei nailed it. Part of it, I think, is playing a role. But...watch his face. Look at the Fever vids, go back to the early ones. Those are very playful, very much 'fanservice/stagegay'. Fast forward to St Louis. The kiss we got as a "suck on that, Westboro!" That was going to be a lick, but Adam changed it, and you can see Tommy's reaction to it. It's very, "WHOA!" And he was into it, and more importantly, he gave in to it.
The kiss we got in Bethlehem was a departure. Yeah, it was on the heels of fake-n-bake-gate, and Tommy was somewhat subdued looking that night. It was also the first appearance of "The Sweater Of Love." That kiss was softer. And then...holy shit, St Jean. Now that was something altogether different. That was Tommy with his arm around Adam's wait, rather tightly, the kiss that never ended, and...Tommy's face. I believe his knees would have been shaking, had the camera panned down.
Of course that takes us to Providence. And WTF was that?? That was Adam establishing Dom status, and Tommy submitting in front of everyone. And of course, no one really noticed. they were too busy dissecting "But he also...he likes this." THAT was gonna be...something. And then Adam's brain engaged, thanks a lot, Adam-NOT.
After this, though, when we have a Fever moment, Tommy's face goes from waiting for his cue to...waiting. His eyes go to Adam for his 'cue' all the time, months after everything should be by rote. Of course, he and Adam have more physical contact. But if you want a really good comparison...watch Monte. What he does with Adam is very masculine, very...hetero. Tommy is softer, prettier, and way more...submissive. The way he leans on Adam...and how funny that Adam calls him a pretty kitty. He is constantly in Adam's orbit, seeking Adam's eyes, his body contact...but not aggressively.
This is an interesting statement. I hadn't thought about it this way. Probably because whenever I see them together my mind goes straight to the gutter. When you put it like this, it shows what a unique man Tommy really is. Someone could write a fascinating thesis on the psychology of their relationship.
Kind of makes me want to go back to college or something *wink*
Aww, thank you ♥ I've had many discussions on this issue before, and I was far less coherent at first. Like, I knew there was something awesome there but it took me a while to be able to articulate it. I love this fandom because there's a lot of thinky stuff in between the flail, and thus a lot of very intelligent people get drawn in too, so you get the most wonderful, intellectually stimulating conversations. While UNFing at Adam. It's the best.
It's always a real mindfuck for me when I get flirty with a girl who expects to always be the passive/submissive one, and forces me into the active/dominant role. I really have to shift my whole perception of myself and my patterns of behavior around. Honestly it's sort of unnerving, but I bet having it be part of a stage act for Tommy fixes a lot of that problem. He's a supporting musician for a frontman, so he's not moving that far to get to the submissive role, and it's for art instead of part of RL behavior, so he doesn't have to change his perception of himself. He can test-drive the new role with a lot of the danger stripped away, and see if he likes it. Which he obviously does! ;)
And remember that time Tommy licked his shoulder and he was like "don't do that! I'm sweaty and gross!" Um, obviously he doesn't think you're gross, dude. And I hardly see Adam as one of those people who insists on showering before they have sex every time. But Adam had an instinctive unsettled feeling from it, and interpreted it as ...but that's gross.
LOL, funnily enough I just finished college so my head's kind of in the right spot to be doing thinky stuff. I totally know what you mean, I tend to drool and UNF at them for the first few hours. But the best thing about this fandom is that I've been able to have amazing conversations with other fans (some of whom study this shit for a living) and so I've been able to appreciate the implications of Adam as a mainstream artist in our current society, too. I actually know someone (met her at one of the shows, too) who just wrote her thesis on Adam and masculinity in American media.
Re: proof that lipstick doesnt always mean no kiss btw
This is one of the hottest things I've ever seen, and would be even if it wasn't specifically our boys. I mean...JESUS...this is like brain-meltingly hot...can't believe I forgot about this one!
And now I will never get anything done ever again, because my life will be consumed with watching this ridiculously amazing gif.
YES! This fandom.....although in fact it's often a RESPECTdom....has allowed me to meet so many people, become a part of so many communities where FINALLY I can be COMPLETELY myself. It's truly no big deal if people are straight or LGBTQ...all are in it together. hell, I even think there's some slight appreciation that as a lesbian, I'm not gonna get in anyone's way if they're drooling over Adam. *giggle* People aren't creeped out by differences in orientation......everyone's equal. I LOVE that! And YES to the legit thinky things! I enjoy the fic and comments - big topics are tackled and discussed....no one should EVER dismiss it as something less. :-)
I'm actually really interested in this kind of thing. I read an article on AfterElton about Adam's fan base and fanfiction. The author implied that fan fiction is actually a good thing for tolerance and acceptance of gays and to a lesser extent, lesbians. A lot of people felt that was a ridiculous statement but I agreed with him. The (mostly) woman who read and write fanfiction are mothers, friends, sisters, etc... They share their views with their friends, family, co-workers. They raise their children to be open minded and accepting. Sorry, I didn’t mean to get away from the subject of Tommy.
You’ve actually given me something new to think about. Thanks
The St. Louis one had me watching for, like, 95029350 times. Tommy is very good at ~rolling with it. That's why I don't get people who are convinced that he's somehow secretly ~unwilling or being taken advantage of. *eye-roll* Also he's a grown-ass man, way to be insulting to both him and Adam. I mean, the very first time he ~rolled with it was THE FIRST TIME WE SAW HIM, performance-wise, at the AMAs.
Which is fascinating on its own. Obviously right now he and Adam have grown close and are good friends who are comfortable with each other. Last November, they'd known each other, what, a month? AND YET TOMMY JUST MELTED INTO THAT FIRST KISS. That totally screams natural sub to me, like you've said.
Re: proof that lipstick doesnt always mean no kiss btw
Hotness. I think too Tommy and at times Adam is experiencing all this through the fuzzy warmth of alcohol consumption so I think Tommy is just more apt to let himself enjoy being ~handled.
I just noticed that the pink lipstick plus hint of stubble makes Tommy's jaw look more masculine and unfy. THIS IS NOT A COMBINATION I EVER EXPECTED TO ENJOY.
Ah, sub!Tommy. I think it really is just natural, because he makes the dom bitch in me want to tie him down and have my way with him and I've NEVER had a reaction like that to a guy, and I don't think I would if it was purely just acting. The way he just gives to Adam is amazing.
